Teenage depression has become more and more prevalent in our country, which begs the question: What do you do to help a friend or family member that is just a teen struggling with depression? Teenage depression in its most severe cases can be very difficult to deal with. It’s hard to know where to go for help or what do. Recently, I came across a place that specializes in teen depression, but it has such a unique approach, I’m wondering if any of you know more about it or places like it. New Haven residential treatment center, in Spanish Fork, Utah is a kind of boarding school for teenage girls suffering from depression. It has onsite counselors and therapists to help students deal with and overcome depression. They even have horses that the girls can ride and take care of that they incorporate into the therapy. I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever attended this type of "away from home" program they have at New Haven and could share her thoughts about the pro's and con's of programs like that. Teenage depression needs to be taken seriously, so if you happen to know any girls that seem to have the symptoms, please forward information like this to their parents and help that person get professional help. If you know of other places that offer good treatment for teenage depression, please comment to this blog so we can spread the word!
